The Middle East Union Leadership Conference was part of implementing the MEU strategic plan 2009 to 2011. It was envisaged that when leaders from all the Fields come together for the mid-year meetings of May 2010 in Beirut, Lebanon, they will go back with their skills enhanced through the leadership conference. Invitations were also extended to the Field Secretaries and Treasurers. Subsequently, 30 leaders drawn from different Fields and Sections as well as the MEU Departmental Directors and institutional leaders attended the conference.
Ellen G. White writes in the book Gospel Worker and she says,
There is more joy in the presence of the angels in heaven over one sinner that repents than over ninety and nine just persons who need no repentance. There is joy with the Father and with Christ. All heaven is interested in the salvation of man. He who is instrumental in saving a soul is at liberty to rejoice; for angels of God have witnessed his efforts with the most intense interest, and rejoice with him in his success. {GW92 74.1}
Heaven must have burst into a chorus of great rejoicing when 74 new souls were added into the Adventist Church via baptism in the evangelistic campaign that Dr. Bern Yuot and a team in Sudan conducted in Nasir Town. It was dubbed as “the friends of Jesus seminar” and it began on the 21st of April 2010 and ended on the 11th of May 2010. The evangelistic team had to battle with rain and storms that constantly interrupted the evangelistic meetings. Despite the frequent interruptions by rain and storms, the attendance ranged between 180 to 552 persons attending each night for 18 nights of meetings. Daily the meetings started with songs of praise, which was followed by family life, drama, health lectures and finally the main sermon delivered by Pastor Yuot. During the day, the team went from home to home visiting individuals, who attend meetings regularly. All people, young and old were invited to come and attend the “friends of Jesus seminars” conducted in the main market area in Nasir Town. Children had their corners, where biblical stories were shared with them in pictorial forms.
Cha!Cha!Cha! “Fiesta!” was the exclamations you could hear if you passed by Boushrieh Adventist Secondary School (BASS) in Beirut from April 5-9, 2010 where the SDA University Church’s Children’s Ministries Department had its annual Vacation Bible School (VBS) evangelistic program. “Fiesta” as an outreach program for the department, catered for the Boushrieh Adventist Secondary School (BASS) students. Various individuals from the University Church had volunteered to Fiesta and got FIRED UP ABOUT JESUS’ LOVE! Moreover, BASS students from grades 10 & 11 had volunteered along with the University Chaplain to Fiesta! “Fiesta” was a celebration that occurred from April 5-9, 2010 on the premises of BASS. Kindergarten (“Silly Chilies” Preschool) and Elementary students were having fun along with their multinational volunteers who had agreed to serve God and join this celebration. VBS had around 80 students who were guided by 15 volunteers - BASS students (Crew Leaders), and 15 SDA University Church volunteers (Station Leaders); whether the individual is a pastor, shepherdess, Sabbath school teacher, or even just a child, they all together hand-in-hand made sure Lebanon witnesses this celebration, where kids are fired up about Jesus’ love!
